Toronto authorities have arrested a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl who were driving a stolen vehicle and hit a bicycle police officer. The boy is alleged to have been the driver of the stolen vehicle, according to CTV News.
The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday when the stolen vehicle was initially spotted by officers and stopped in the northbound lanes of the road. As officers approached the vehicle on their bicycles, the driver accelerated towards them.
On Tuesday, the police shared a 15-second video demonstrating the suspect vehicle briefly veering into the opposite lane in an attempt to escape and subsequently colliding with the police officer on the bike, causing the officer to seek safety on top of another vehicle’s hood. The vehicle then continued into the intersection as the injured officer fell to the ground.
The injured officer was taken to the hospital and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Both the 15-year-old boy and the 17-year-old girl are now facing eight charges, including dangerous operation causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities cannot be disclosed.
