Mathieu van der Poel survived a late crash and damaged shoe to win the world title in Glasgow after an epic 271 km race.
The Dutchman was part of a select group that chased down Alberto Bettiol (Italy) and then attacked alone with one ands half laps of the twisting Glasgow circuit to race.
He slid out on a corner but got up to extend his lead and won alone.

How it unfolded
The 2023 Road World Championships road race would be the longest since Firenze a decade ago, measuring in at 271km from Edinburgh to Glasgow and taking in 10 laps of a challenging, technical, and hilly circuit in Scotland’s largest city.
