Israel – Premier Tech rider Mike Woods will be easy to spot in the pro peloton for the next year, thanks to his new national championship jersey.
The Ottawa native took the victory at the road race in St. Georges, Quebec, on June 22. Woods and his teammate, Pier-André Côté, crossed the finish line together. Côté had previously claimed the 2024 Canadian national time trial championship two days earlier. It’s the first time in the 37-year-old cyclist’s career that he has done so.
For his custom jersey provided by Ekoï, Woods had a clear idea of what look he wanted.
“When Phoebe Haymes, head of marketing and communications at Israel – Premier Tech asked me what I wanted my national championships kit to look like, I said I wanted it to have the vibe of the ‘96 Atlanta track kit and have it feel like an old school team Canada hockey jersey,” he posted on Instagram. “I couldn’t be happier with the results!”
The next race for Woods will be the Donostia San Sebastián Klasikoa, on Saturday, where he will debut the jersey.
The other elite champion, Olivia Baril of Movistar, hasn’t yet revealed her national championship jersey. She just finished racing two events at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The Rouyn-Noranda native raced the time trial, where she finished 20th, and the road race, where she finished 44th. Baril was close to completing the double at the national road championships in June. She took second in the time trial to triathlete Paula Findlay, and would upgrade her result to first at the road race.
The next event for Baril is the Tour de France Femmes, so cycling fans will get to see her new maple leaf jersey.
The Tour de France Femmes starts on Monday. Including Baril, there will be five Canadians racing at the Tour.
