So it turns out Jonas Vingegaard is a pretty good actor

Nowadays, it’s pretty common for professional cycling teams to have some pretty elaborate social media posts. Sometimes, some land better than others. (I’m looking at you, Astana, and those multiple rap videos.)

On Wednesday, Team Jumbo Visma had some fun with some rumours floating on Twitter that sprinter Olav Kooij would be heading elsewhere. His recent results like an overall win at the ZLM Tour, and a stage of Paris-Nice, have made the 21-year-old a hot commodity. Kooij began on the Jumbo Visma development squad, and got upgraded to the WorldTour team in 2021. He’s already scored 21 wins as a young pro, so it makes sense that other outfits would be interested in him.

Basically the entire population of Denmark came to fête Jonas Vingegaard

In a video posted on twitter, the Dutch team had Jonas Vingegaard and Christophe Laporte post a goodbye message to Kooij. It was a heartfelt farewell to the young rider, with both cyclists sharing anecdotes of their experiences with him.

Just as they were about to sign off, a confused directeur sportif Merijn Zeeman pops up.

“Olav is going nowhere,” he says to the Jumbo-Vismo duo. “Olav is staying with us.”

Vingegaard, for his part, does a pretty good job in the short clip. Denmark has some very well-known actors like Viggo Mortensen, Mads Mikkelsen, Sidse Babett Knudsen or Connie Nielsen. An honourable mention goes to Scarlett Johansson, whose father is Danish.

But maybe if this biking thing doesn’t work out for Vingegaard, he can try his hand at acting? Someone get Lars von Trier on the phone, STAT.
